Bear Bones Beer

Back in June of this year, Lise and I had a rare weekday off together and decided to go for a ride towards Lewiston, Maine to see if we could find a tasting room or two to visit. This was on a Tuesday and, unknown to us at the time, not a great day for finding tasting rooms open. Lise called a couple breweries in the area as I drove from Portland towards LA and got no answer and their websites were saying they were closed. She went to the Bear Bones Beer website, got the phone number and called even though they were also closed that day. Someone answered the phone, She explained that we were driving up from Portland with our Maine Beer Trail checklist and wanted to know if and when they might be open.
The gentleman on the phone explained that they were not open that day and in fact, they were at the brewery working on some beer. He also said that he had some paperwork to do in the office and if we were in the area by 4:00 pm to stop by and he would let us in.
This was one of our best tasting room experiences. The two owners welcomed us and were excited to tell us all about the brewery and the great ideas they had for new beer flavors. We tried everything they had available that day and even bought some t-shirts. Afterall, this is one of the coolest logos on the Trail.

We did make it back in late July and took these pictures.
Lise and I both like the Johnny Rye Ale nitro.

Baxter Brewing Company

On July 28, 2016 (yes, we will jump around a bit from time to time), Lise and I had the pleasure of visiting Baxter Brewing Company.
If I have my facts straight, this was the first local brewery to use cans instead  of bottles. The owner was on Forbes top 30 under 30 list at the age of 27 and they brew the third most beer in the state of Maine.
But, on top of all that, it was just a really cool place with some really good beer. Located in the old Bates Mill building in Lewiston, Maine, The huge old brick mill just oozes stability and quality.
The beer tender was friendly and knowledgeable and the tasting room was quaint and clean.
Lise liked the small batch Amaretto Milk Stout while my favorite was the Stowaway IPA.
You can visit Baxter Brewing Company at 130 Mill St., Lewiston, Maine 04240.
